Pompey Women Visit St. Andrew's - Birmingham (A)

Pompey Women's tough start to life in the Championship continued as they were beaten 4-0 Away at Birmingham.

48 Pompey fans made the very rainy 3 Hour trip up to St. Andrew's on Sunday, battling through what can only be described as horrendous driving conditions.

The Stadium was easy enough to find and despite limited onsite parking there was plenty of off street parking spots for fans within a short walking distance from the ground. Once again Fans had the option to utilise a Coach, that travelled direct from The Pompey Club shop straight to St. Andrew's, which had been organised by the Club.

Upon arrival they had some food stalls outside the ground along with an Ice cream Van. I don't believe their sales would have been too spectacular considering the weather! Just inside the stand entrance were a balloon artist and a face painting station.

The Birmingham Stewards were friendly and worked well with us to get all the Portsmouth fans grouped together, especially after helping get relocated out the rain into the upper block.

St. Andrew's had a good view over the pitch from Block 38 in the corner of the stadium (Where the majority of Pompey fans were Located). The Pompey chimes and cries of 'Minty Army' could be clearly overheard on the Broadcast of the game.

A few people might however argue the cheers wouldn't be heard over the sound of the tannoy. We saw fans commenting how 'The Pre match and half time music was so loud that you had to shout to hear one another!'. Having a DJ at the top of the stand along with a lightshow seems to be something Birmingham City are trying but there is no need to blast it that loud, it was honestly deafening.

We also thought it was strange how the Stadium announcer didn't announce the Portsmouth line up pre match and noticed they announced one of their goals wrong as well as well as not announcing some of the subs.

Despite the result I think the game highlighted how Pompey fans will support their team through the good times and will support their team through the tough times. It was good to see the players coming over and acknowledging the travelling support at full time.

The team need our support more than every whilst they acclimatise to this new division. Those fans who have been going for a few years will notice what a huge jump Tier 3 to Tier 2 is. It's been likened to jumping from League 1 to Premier League in the men's game. Bring on Newcastle at Westleigh!
